Lupii Râncii 2024 — Survival Camp

Cetina Rânca, Parâng Mountains, Romania

An adventure in the heart of the Parâng Mountains

In 2024, the Lupii Râncii Survival Camp programme offered children something different from an ordinary holiday: days outdoors, mountain adventure, local traditions, and experiences in which learning itself became an adventure.

With Cetina Rânca as the starting point, the camp brought together the beauty of the Parâng Mountains, the routes of the Transalpina, and places in Gorj County rich in history and tradition.

The idea was simple: to give children the chance to explore, to learn useful skills, and to discover how much they can do when they have the courage to try.

The six principles of survival

At the heart of the programme were six essential elements: attitude, shelter, water, fire-lighting, food, and help.

Participants were to learn how to pitch a tent, how to light a fire in suitable conditions, and how to find their way in nature.

Mountains, forests, valleys, and waters became landmarks for understanding the surrounding environment and for building practical skills.

Beyond these techniques, the programme emphasised trust, responsibility, and collaboration — qualities that matter outdoors and in everyday life.

Hiking, ATVs, and mountain adventure

The Parâng Mountains offered the ideal setting for exploration and outdoor movement.

The programme included forest hikes, ATV and buggy rides, and experiences that brought children closer to the spectacular nature around Rânca.

Another component presented in the offer was Parcul de Aventură Rânca, with suspended trails, zip lines, and climbing activities adapted to different levels of difficulty.

For those keen on more dynamic experiences, the programme also mentioned airsoft range activities.

Horezu — where clay comes to life

One of the most distinctive experiences proposed in the Lupii Râncii 2024 programme was a visit to the pottery workshops of Horezu.

Here, children had the chance to discover a tradition known for the craftsmanship of its potters and for objects made and decorated by hand.

The excursion offered a fine contrast with the mountain activities: after adventure outdoors came an encounter with patience, creativity, and the skill of people who keep local crafts alive.

The experience was completed by a workshop devoted to the secrets of bread baked on the hearth — another authentic link to Romanian traditions.

On the trail of Gorj’s stories

The routes proposed in the programme did not stop at Horezu.

Polovragi Monastery brought an encounter with the history and spirituality of the place, while Muierii Cave, at Baia de Fier, offered a glimpse into a fascinating underground world.

At the sheepfold on the Transalpina, children could learn more about pastoral traditions and the life of people in the mountains.

Each excursion was conceived as a fresh chance to explore, weaving adventure together with the discovery of local heritage.

Five nights at Cetina Rânca

The programme presented in 2024 provided for five nights of accommodation, with arrival on Sunday evening and departure on Friday morning.

The offer included full board: breakfast, lunch, a snack, and dinner, in a three-star classified lodging.

The published tariff was 250 lei per child per day, including VAT, and for organised groups the services of one accompanying adult were free for every ten children.

Transport, excursions, visits, and entrance fees to tourist sites were listed separately, as services not included in the base tariff.

These details belong to the historical 2024 offer and are not a currently bookable tariff.

More than a camp. The spirit of Lupii Râncii.

Lupii Râncii was built around an idea that goes beyond adventure itself: children can learn about nature, about traditions, and about themselves when they are encouraged to explore and discover new things.

From finding their way in the forest to the pottery workshops of Horezu, from mountain hikes to meeting the stories of Gorj, the 2024 programme reflected a wish to bring education and authentic experience together.

Because the finest adventures are measured not only in kilometres walked, but in what we discover along the way.
